Stair Vignette Width Question

Postby Halsey » Tue Aug 30, 2016 7:05 am

Need a clarification...

Hypothetically, say you have a room that is 18'x18'

Second floor occupant load is 240.

at 0.3" per occupant for stair width is a 6' wide stair.

The total width of the stair would include the railings, it does not mean 6' clear width, correct?

If it does not include the railings, I think 6' would be the max width allowed for the stair in the space.

you are missing the number of exits required. The occupant load is divided by the number of exits THEN multiplied by the .3 (or number given by the code) = the stair width

i hope this helps

Thank you for clarifying but what if there is only one exit...

For this test, Total width of stair is out to out of stringer or inside rail to rail/clear width?
